What did we do at Minischool in May 2013?

May 2013

This months news from Kids on the Rock Educational Preschool.

May 2013

This week, the pre-schoolers began their preparations to learn about the season of Winter. We kicked this off with a Pyjama party where the teachers, Cristina and Mandy as well as all the children enjoyed Pyjama wear all day fluffy slippers included! We had a proper tea party with china tea set and warm hot chocolates and marshmallows plus some hot popcorn to enjoy while listening to stories.

Prior to this week, we enjoyed learning about marine life during our ocean studies theme week and before this we all displayed our strengths during SUPERHERO week.

Our vegetable garden is coming along faster than a speeding train. In 7-8 weeks our permaculture inspired garden is not only beautiful but functional. Our 3-4 year olds love to visit the herb spiral and have a taste most mornings. Who would guess that 3 year olds all taste and enjoy fresh coriander straight from the garden J

Thank you to Jane and Bubby at Music valley for allowing us to visit your beautiful and historical gardens as a preschool excursion. We especially enjoyed smelling the mint, fennel and roses.

We also thank Norfolk Island Central school staff for allowing us to begin our school visits for all of our 3-6 year olds as we visit the library with our newly made upholstery library bags. We liked listening and borrowing books as well as swapping our favourites among our friends. It is nice to start the school visits on such a happy note that will continue right through to school orientation towards the end of the year to our pre-schoolers moving up to BIG school in 2014.

Our scrapbooks that we started in February are bursting with all of the children's artwork and educational activities. So much so that we now need to begin a second scrapbook.

WE now have a couple of availabilities for 3 to 6 year old pre-schoolers (we will take from 2 ½ if fully toilet trained.) Holiday places for tourists and visiting families throughout the year are most welcome especially in school holidays.

We are looking for places in the community to come and visit, if you have somewhere that would be of interest to pre-schoolers of Norfolk Island please call Cristina on 55678 so we can arrange a visit.

Scrap paper and cardboard of any shape size or colour is always welcome. We are happy to collect.

Kids on the Rock preschool is on Prince Philip drive above Cockpit waterfall .

We are so lucky to have such a wonderful space to learn and grow.

more views from Minischool

This time these are the Photos from our grounds and inside the preschool

Views from (just next to) Minischool

Today our regular cargo ship the Norfolk Guardian arrived and began unloading supplies at the Cascade Pier. Each time this happens we can happily walk outside our gate and turn left to have morning tea and enjoy viewing the unloading.

Here we play, read story books, invent games and songs and enjoy this amazing view.

One of the best things about Norfolk Island children is that they don't need paid entertainment, they enjoy making their own discoveries. Our children are patient, they usually have to wait for mail and supplies and seasonal vegetable and fruits. They don't live in an instant 24 an hour, 7 day a week world.
Everything here takes time and appreciation, what a great lesson to install in the future generation all for free.

Happy 4th Birthday Miss K.

We had fun creating a party complete with coconut ice cupcakes for you.

We also wish a happy 4th birthday to Miss H who used to come to kinderhaus. We hope you two girls had a great weekend

making things

PLAYDOUGH!

fresh playdough is awesome!
It is many things, it feels great, enhances fine and gross motor skills, great for hand eye coordination and the imagination, making it gives great skills such as measuring, pouring and mixing AND it has the added bonus of being a stress reliever (pop some into a balloon and you have an instant stress release ball as sold to office workers worldwide).

But the best part is that it is FUN!

SUPERHERO week

This week we learned that not all super heroes can be found in comics.

The most important superheroes are saving lives by being doctors and nurses or police and fire men and women.
There are lots of very important jobs that help people without a cape.

Though the super capes were fun and we loved flying around helping our friends.

We are going Bananas

We have been so fortunate to have a recent supply of bananas from our trees that we started turning into cheeky monkeys!

My favourite is the spontaneous conversation between J and J on their BANANA PHONES below

Having a great TIME at minischool

This week we learned about the concept of time and we liked it!

We found out that we all have a different favourite time of the day also.

Our favourite game is always what the time Mr Wolf? We all want to be cheeky to get close enough to the 'wolf' to be caught for his dinner.
