Excursion to the NICS swimming carnival

At the beginning of every school year, Norfolk Island Central School holds its annual Swimming Carnival at Emily Bay.
This year, we wanted to take our pre-schoolers down to watch and cheers on the 3 teams. Nepean-Green, Norfolk-Red and Phillip-Blue.
Our new banner arrived in the mail that morning, ready to hang on our pop up gazebo on the beach.
It also gave our pre-schoolers a taste of what they would be joining in with when they started big school themselves next year.
We made our own swimming pool in front of our tent and cheered on the children in the beach races.
What a beautiful day!

'Dave our head Kid.' entertaining the troupes, the kids love him.

Introducing Peri~Peri the preschool puppy

Welcome to Peri~Peri the Preschool puppy.
We know that you will provide plenty of love and companionship for the preschool children as you grow with them.

An added bonus is having your sister Kello living next door .
Kello (above) was always a bouncy puppy, so different from the usually quiet & timid Peri~Peri.

A visit from puppy Kello

Puppy Kello decided to visit us today from 'the house below' while her Mummy was at work.
It seems that preschoolers have as much energy as her to run and play, she could hardly stay still long enough to get a photo. Puppies and Children are all delightful and provide us with plenty of amusement to watch them interact with each other.
Add a few feral roosters to the mix and we have a whole ball of fun up here.

water play on a hot day

It is Summer here on Norfolk Island. We are in the middle of the South Pacific so like to cool down as we play. What better way than with fun, coloured water and ice cubes.

The colours change each day and sometimes when we return from eating our lunch, the fairies have dropped some glitter in our water too.

Pouring, scooping, dripping, measuring, swishing, swirling, splashing. All in good fun and a bit of learning too.

A scenic picnic lunch......with some cows

Here is our 'local'.
A special spot where we can wander down from Preschool to view our cargo ship unloading goods.

We often come here for a picnic lunch as it is just a short stroll down the road with 180 degree views to enjoy.

We can make discoveries, read book, sing songs and play games here.
The wandering cattle are as interested in us as we are in them.

It is a very special place, I don't think I would ever get tired of it or its views.

The Eco Tree

We call this single clever milkweed plant or butterfly bush  'our eco tree'.
It has its own little eco system going on its branches. The children enjoy watching the insects and bugs who live there.
So far we have seen;
  • lady bugs
  • aphids
  • brown praying mantis
  • green praying mantis
  •  ants
  • monarch caterpillars emerging from their eggs and getting fatter each day from eating the leaves.
It is a beautiful botanical lesson to observe courtesy of nature.

Dinosaur week

Dinosaurs were alive and well at the preschool, we built a special habitat for them including watering holes, food sources and nests with eggs.

When the dinosaurs weren't so alive and well, we became paleontologists and carefully excavated them from the sand tray.

Everyone brought extra dinosaur books, toys and discoveries from home so we learnt so much more about how they lived and died.

It was a fascinating week.

Happy 3rd Birthday Jasper

Baking, creating, tasting, treasure hunts.
What a fun day to start off our Kids on the Rock preschool birthdays.
