Cancer Council fundraiser. The biggest afternoon tea. May 2014

On Thursday 29th of May, Minischool joined in with The Cancer Councils initiative to hold the biggest morning tea(or in our case afternoon tea) as a way to raise funds and awareness for cancer research.

In our Minischool family we have all been affected by Cancer. It has a huge emotional impact when it happens to our Fathers, Mothers, Brothers, Sisters and even our children have all been affected by this disease. My own family and extended family have had a mixture of survivors and losses.

For those of you who may not know, my co-worker Mandy's boy was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour when he was a baby. This is something no mother should have to go through but they are strong & survivors and I am intensely proud of their family. Their 'little' boy is now in his first year at school and blooming.

Mandy who also lost her father to Cancer not long ago has hosted the biggest morning tea as a fundraiser each year among friends.

This year we are proud that she will host it at the new Minischool. We have only been in our new premises  for 4 days but it was great to be filled with afternoon tea, cakes, love and laughter among our Minischool family and friends.  The minister of passionfruit slice was one of the first to arrive and sample our goodies and we counted approximately 27 adults and many, many kids who loved the gardens as much as the fairy bread and popcorn.

The Minischool children helped with decorations (the blue and yellow balloons and signs looked great kids)  and preparations. They asked lots of questions (mostly "when can we have cake?") and learned a little bit of understanding about healthy bodies and trying to make a difference in this world by fighting for what we believe in.

For people who arrived to the fundraiser from the announcement on Minischool's facebook page, it was a good chance to have a sticky beak at the new premises over a cuppa too.

Any donations towards Cancer research were gratefully accepted. Over $400 has been raised so far.

Thankyou from the bottom of our hearts.
Cristina & Mandy
